Mike, I'm almost sure you have the original motor. Just double check the other date codes on the heads to verify.

During the Spring of 65, the Pontiac Michigan plant was on overload. Motors were cast the same week and at times the same day as the trim tag was stamped.

I have verified this with five original, 65 GTO’s I have come across including mine. I was skeptical too when I looked at mine a few years back. I have a 4th week in April trim tag date code and an April 28, 1965 (the fifth week of April) engine block cast date. I know I have the original motor because how well the car is documented and the fact that it is verified with the Protect-O-Plate.

I started asking around and looking at some of the big shows at original cars to see if I could find others like that. I found 4 other cars with these the same issue, all of them where Pontiac, Michigan cars. The owners were sure they were the original motors.

I’m sure you can find some other owners on here with the same issue. Maybe some others on here can post their numbers to see what we get. Keep that motor!!!!!!!
