I have been keeping an eye open for a rebuildable cheap TH-400 to go in the GTO (Back-halved, full cage car, hoping to see the 10's with minimal spray).

Found one locally but it has the long tail shaft, from a 70's Bonneville.

Have seen warnings on other posts here before about these not fitting the stock crossmember on the A-Body, but is there anything else inherently not "performance use friendly"???

Fabricating a new crossmember is no biggy and a custom driveshaft is in the plan anyway. So any other reason not to use this one as a starting point for a manual-shift/non-trans-brake performance rebuild? Will the shorter drive shaft adversely affect some angles with the pinion an such?

Thanks
