Ol' Blue, you needed some compression. THAT, my friend is what wakes up these engines. You ran the four-barrel setup on the 9:1 head? No wonder it's dead.
I ran about 11.5:1 (the 67 Sprint head on a bored 250, ports cleaned up a little) with all other stock components. Car came to life, and smoked the big rear tires as it whomped second gear (stock TH350!) at about 50 mph, with a lame 3.23 rear.
Your combo is just not right.
