My 400 has been running very hot and got talked into an small plastic flex fan by buddy and it really got close to boiling over with that.Car does seem much slower when it heats up.We have also been in very hot weather lately. Other day car was hot and it was hot out and ran a 15.12 and then made run in morning when it was cooler out before car warmed up and got a 14.59.This is on my tazzo vpc but track results the other day were similar.
I have put in a 160 stat and no help. I have a few reaons for my high temps and here is steps taken to correct them. I just installed a 17 inch flex fan,that helped a bit and today am installing a heavy duty big block radiator,its modine rad cost around 200 US and also installing a 16 inch heavy duty hayden electric which will be used as a pusher fan.I also have already added redline water wetter supposed to drop temps 10 degrees with 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Oh one more important thing.I have no air dam on my ta .I have a slightly damaged one to install off my parts ta and that is supposed to really help the cooling as think 79 to 81 are really bottom feeders for the rad,not sure about earlier years. So pretty sure all of the above today will keep it running cool as a cucumber.Bought a fixed fan temp control but may put a manual override on electric for the track so can run it with car off.I have stripped of my air conditioning and removed condenser from in front of the rad.A couple more things to do are add on tranny cooler and possibly add on oil cooler. I will get my 400 to run cooler yet.
