All of the ideas where good, but Bill was right there...Never break-in a motor with syn...
Go to a Pep Boys and buy their cheapest Filter,
$3 US..Change the oil,put in 10/40 regular....
Run it for 500/800 hundred miles,if everything is ok, put the Syn back -in..Good luck and don't get carried away with those expensive filters...
I have used cheap cardboard type filters in my race car for 5-6years, no-problems at all.....
Keep it as stock as possible, GM-engineers
