During the restification process on my 69 GP I replaced the bulbs with Wagner halogen bulbs. They look a lot brighter, and they are only about $2 more than the regular ones. They do not require any modifications to the electrical system either. Any other type as far as I know are not DOT approved for the street. For instance the blue glow, or the clear lense high intensity. I could be wrong, but the Wagners are the easiest route I know of and give you better light.
So bright smiley needs his shades.
