I have the CVR on my 400. It fit just fine. the gear is not supose to be in constant contact whit the flywheel. When you turn the key, the gear kicks out. I carfully pulled mine out with a screwdriver to check gear clearance after install. Are you sure you have the Pontiac starter. If you need I can check the part # for you.
