Thanks Mr_GTO, excellent point about the Wilwood kit, plus it is "ONLY" about $650 (not including a new master cylinder.) I will have to check out the Baer one too.
Shadowjack - I have read that too. It makes sense since the stock disc rotor weighs more than a stock drum; and the stock caliper definitely weighs LOTS more than the stock drum innards. But it has been 15 yrs since I drove this car on the street and I STILL remember how WAY scary as far as stopping with those drum brakes. I don't even want to try that from 130 miles an hour or so, especially should me or the guy in the other lane be having any "problems."
