Not easy to explain but... The dash was originally vacuum metalized to simulate chrome. It is actually aluminum. There are a few places in the US that do this. I could'nt find a shop in Phoenix, az.
Then it is painted a semi gloss black except for the front edges of the gauge holes the turn signal light holes and the brake light hole. In addition (This is the hard part) a ring aroung the entire flat surface is left chrome. If you are going to have the part vacuum metalized, that shop will usually paint it correctly too. You need to get some pics. I can't post any from here, maybe tonight.
I used Chrome paint.
