I'm no expert by any means, but how about shooting some WD-40 between the panels? Doesn't seem like that could hurt anything unless you over did it and it start dripping down on everything. Maybe that would keep condensation from attacking the metal further. I knew someone that used to spray motor oil inside the rocker panels on unibody cars and claimed that it kept them from rusting through.
