I have been struggling with idle temps for some time now. I noticed that my fan does not really stick "in" to the shroud. I decided to try a spacer to get the fan into the shroud. Only spacer I could find that day was 1 1/2 inches. So I put that on and had to take the shroud off. (wouldn't fit with the 1 1/2 spacer) My fan is now around 2" from the radiator instead of 3 1/2". It seems like there is more air getting sucked thru the grill. I put a towel in front of the grill before and after to get an idea. I will see what happens as the weahter gets warmer and report back.
By the way I have a Rodney Red and a cast impeller with the appropriate clearance.
