I installed an after market temp gauge on my 66 Tempest w/ a 64 326 V8. I replaced the sensor and installed the gauge correctly per the directions. The temp gauge reads 230-235 degrees once the car is warmed up!
My guess is that the gauge is not correct for the following reasons:
I stuck a instant read meat themometer in the radiator just below the water inlet, and it reads 160 degrees, which is the same as thermostat that I recently installed.
Also, when I turned on the heater full blast, the temp gauge didn't budge, still read 230 degrees - if the radiator was clogged, or had poor flow, I would expect the temp to drop.
Is using an instant read meat themometer a good way to double check the gauge's accuracy?
