I think a lot of the color differences can be attributed to two things, lighting and the number of coats of color applied. You would have to have the same exact lighting to compare colors and photos are a terrible way to compare. When painting dark colors the more coats of color you put on the darker the color gets. Colors like dark blue, maroons, browns and dark greens are most affected by this.
