Dave, Richmond recommends no higher the 3.08 gears. I run 3.55 with a 26" tire and I can say first gear is real low. If you went with the 5 speed, you may want to consider a tall tire or changing your gears. Just food for thought.
PS I love the trans, had it for many years and it never gave me any trouble but I've stayed with street tires. I got a aluminum flywheel, 11" Centerforce clutch and a hydraulic clutch.
