I agree with Dave. The main problem is your intake manifold. Switch to a dual plane design like a factory unit or Edelbrock Performer/RPM Performer and you should see a big improvement. Naturally the carb will also have to go but replace it with a similar size (CFM) unit that will properly match the replacement intake.
