Find a kit that includes o-rings for all of the connections. R134A molecules are smaller than R12 and therefore can get past old seals. After you have changed all the seals and replaced the compressor oil, use a vacuum pump to pump the closed system down. If if hold vacuum steady for 30 minutes, you are ready to do an initial charge with R134A. Put in about 1/2 can and then check all the connections for leaks. Use a concentrated solution of dish soap and water. No leaks, then charge the system to the manufacturer'r recommendation weight of R-134A. You should get about 40*F air out of the vents.
