I am in the process of doing this on my 462. Here's the deal. In the old days you could do this in the car because you were replacing the rope seal. Those rope seals had asbestos. Today's rope seals do not have asbestos since that's been outlawed. They have fiberglass and are useless. They leak within a 1000 miles of install. Most folks are using a neopreme seal in the motors now. The best one, by consensus, is the BOP seal. The install procedure will require you to pull the engine since you have to remove the crank to get this seal in place (on 3 inch jounal motors).
