If your piston to valve clearance is close to start with, then you put a cam in that's bigger than what you ordered....you know the rest. I personally have had a cam sent to me that was bent slightly! It happens and people make mistakes. That's all I need to know to now go out and make usre it doesn't happen to me.
Not everyone can or will do these things, but they all should. Its just good sense. I pay Indain Adventures to do my motors because of things like this and 1000's more that I don't know about. I'm sure you are in the same boat with a majority of your customers.
You and Tom Vaught both have made good points in certain areas, as have others. But, I wouldn't feel comfortable not checking my motor from top to bottom, even on a street application any more. There are just too many things to worry about.
