ok guys well i hit on this in another post a little bit about my car. i'm looking for a street converter for my trans am. spec's are is a 1983 trans am weighted 3240 lbs no driver with a SBC so i'm guessing add 200 lbs for the pontiac so lets say 3440 with 3.23 gears 26" tall tires. it has a stock bore 455 with a ram air 3 cam, adv 4 degs. has ported #62 heads with milled down TRW forged pistions to provide 9:1 compression. i had a "3500" stall in it and it seemed never lock up in 2nd or 3rd at WOT. i made about 7 passes at our local 1/8 mile track and it ran 7.82 @ 85 almost ever pass. i left it in drive doing this.
the car was hitting 5000rpm in 3rd 1:1 gear in the 1/8 mile and i was pulling 86 mph. if the converter wasn't sliping at all the should be 120+ mph. so i know it wasn't locking up from 1-2 it worked fine the 2-3 happed so fast is was crazy and the RPM never droped but maybe 100-300 rpm in the 2-3 shift.

anyhow i broght it back to our shop and changed the coverter to a "2600" stall that i had been running when i had the SBC in it. well the car felt like it slowed down a whole bunch maybe 2 full sec. at least felt that way. i made 3 or 4 passed on the street and on the last pass during the 1-2 shift i broke the sprag in the tranny. i'm not shure why this happend.

ok so a friend of mine is helping me out rebuild it. he built his for his pontiac that runs 10's on motor so i'm sure the tranny will hold up. my question is what size stall should i use and what manufature should i use? his dad has a 3500 that he ran on the street that is a TCI, that i'm thinking about using, but i'm worryed about it never locking up. i taled with the guy who build the tranny at first and he said that the stall is rated on 350 SBC and the stall gets looser with the more tq a motor makes and the the higher the gears are.
i know there i quite a few of you guys who run 3.42's a big stalls, give me some help guys
