I ran into this problem also. My shop used oversize actually thicker shelled bearings and align honed,Bored them to fit the cam. Iwas was a head ache as he had to make the fixture and alignment bushings but its going on 2 years service and all has been ok ! He did at first talk about junking the block but since It had already been fully machined and made ready to assemble we fixed it. It cost me another 200 bucks though ! I talked to a few Pontiac Gurus and it seems this is not to uncommon and one told me he used an old cam with cuts in the bearing journals as a cutting tool to clearance the bearings. Good Luck
