It has always been my contention that a new engine should be broken in on a non-synthetic oil to aid in the proper seating of the rings.after the rings have seated & the engine is properly broken in I would then switch to a synthetic for the reduced friction.
What about oil additives such as Protec.....do you guys think they work?????
The idea of a synthetic not being used to break an engine in is one that I have heard from numerous mechanics.Later Mark B.
