'70-'72 Pontiac A-bodys w/ 6cyl, 350, & 400 engines used 8.2 Pontiac 10 bolts with tapered bearing axles. The tapered bearing axles were alarge improvement but the 8.2 was still saddled with small pinion bearings & small ing gear to pinion gear area.

'70-72 Pontiac A-bodys factory equipped with 455 received Pontiac's version of the Chevy 12 bolt. stronger than the avg 12 bolt Chevelle but hampered by c-clip axle retention.

The 8.5 corporate A-body rearend was not used in a Pontiac A-body till '73 (new bodystyle-different rearend hsg geometry), though the 8.5 A-body was used by Buick & Olds in '71-72.
