Engine stetoscope to isolate the sound location. Alternative, hold your longest screwdriver against your ear and touch the blade to valve covers, block, etc. You should be able to isolate the sound using this method. Just be careful of wires and moving parts
If you can isolate the sound to the valve cover, remove the cover. You'll probably find a rocker off it's pushrod.
