sure, I fogot thepumpshaft once, 12years ago.
And I left it out recently...looks like an accident.
Fact is, I install the oilpump first, then the slugs&rods. Then drop the shaft in from the top, with distributor (HEI, shimmed for little shaft movement
) as a final dry-fit for shaft play. Then install pumpshaft from the top.
Only way to check for pumpshaft play (equal to Dist shaft play) is to have the oilpump already installed.

I'm at that step now, and then the windage tray decision comes to bear, with the dipstick and deeeep pan. Gotta think here. Do I use the full tray, air-nibble it, or toss it to PErf/Parts for Sale...
