Using poly-locks I assume. Just make sure they aren't too tight. Adjusting the valves too tight will make it run rough by bleeding off compression, not providing a strong enough vacuum signal for the carb, etc.
Doesn't matter if you're pouring it in slow or fast, liquids do not compress, so why risk the chance that whatever you're pouring down the intake doesn't vaporize into a gaseous state before entering the cylinder?
A R.A. III cam should idle very smooth all the time. How about some more details as to what is actually going on?
