No, it is not a stupid suggestion at all - and if someone owned a T-Top car that leaked, they would have to look into something like that, or try to have a one-off set made (expensive). The only other alternatives are siliconing the tops on, not driving in the rain, or trying any old seals that can be found, but they are all shot as far as I can tell, considering what I've seen.
The situation sucks, because it makes a 73-77 T-Top GP a liability (73 and 74 would not have been factory - not positive about 75). I am even looking at 78-85 GP's with T-Tops now, seals are easy to come by for them. I've seen a few nice ones from these years for sale lately. With T-Tops, gauges, floor shift and console, and a 301 V8, they can be cool cars with a V8 rumble, and that 301 isn't quite as bad when in the little car.
