yep, your backs are dry rotting, and i would suggest you get a new set of backs rather than painting them. you may be able to find a decent set on ebay or something but i think you can get them new also. Im not sure how its gona look if you scrape off all the grain on yours and paint it and with all the trouble of cleaning and painting and the possibility of it not looking good after i would consider new ones, they have them listed in PY but not sure if they have colors, but OPG lists many colors available.
