A local guy here in Houston used to break his Street 5 speed on a regular basis behind a 455. Talk to their tech dept. The lower the first gear ratio the lower the torque rating. They ususally come with a 3.08 first gear. Dropping to a 2.80 would probably get you some strength there.

Racing you have to go with the consistency of an auto. But a 5 speed is sure fun to drive. I have a Richmond drag 5 speed going in a Camaro project car. Those straight cut gears are pretty stout looking.
