I am running the RR, I have the cast impellor water pump, and the 1 1/2 inch spacer. I do agree that the closer the fan is to the rad the better. I also run a 160 degree thermostat. Normally the car runs about 180. However when it get's hot...90 degrees + she would start climbing up. The shroud, and I sealed it up, really brought down and stabilized the temps. I even tried one of the half moon chrome shrouds, but it kept heating up. The stock shroud will mount to the core supprt, not the Rad. If Jerry built it right it will fit like a glove. You can't hurt trying it without the shroud, I agree it looks better with out it. Mine just alway's seemed to heat up at the perfect wrong time.
I should also mention, that my fan is the biggest that I could find, and I have it about 3/4's of the way into the shroud. With no spacer, it was hardley pulling any air.
