I fought this problem for years. All of our suppliers kept sending me the wrong size belts. On many dual groove pulleys, the width of the front groove is different than the width of the rear groove. If those 2 belts both run on the same 2 pulleys (typically the crank pulley and the water pump pulley), and are not the correct width, they will squeal. Reason being: due to the circumference of the grooves, the belts are traveling at different "speeds" yet the pulleys are only turning at one speed. One of the belts is always dragging, "squealing." With the engine off, stand over top of the water pump pulley. Look straight down the side of the pulley where both belts travel to the crank pulley. The outsides of the 2 belts MUST be riding at the same height. If one belt "rides higher" than the other-you have found your problem. If this is your problem, when you get the correct size belts-they will run silent.
