I would shift at the same RPM. The engine will make peak power at the same spot regardless of what gear you are in (in my opinion). Plus, if you shift out of first gear faster you will lose the gear multiplication sooner. 1st has more multiplication than second which has more than third. But, you can always give it a try to see what happens. As far as short shifting, yes I did pick up. Originally, I shifted at 5k then 5.6k and then 5.3k and found 5.3k to be the best.
As far as how much you will improve, its really hard to say. If you are spinning the first 20' and are now hooking, you will run 2 tenths faster in the 60'. If you are spinning the first 10' and now hook you will pick up about a tenth. What RPM does your converter flash to during launch at the strip?
