Well, I went to pick the car up today. I should have been a lot happier than I was, but I had just received a call that one of my workers that was out of the country working had not taken his permanent resident papers with him to get back here, and since he was not a US citizen, there was a lot of problems with Homeland Security.
But back to the task at hand. Now I should mention that I have not driven a stick shift in a few years. I had 533 BMW, and used a Mazda pickup that had a 5 speed, but these were not a good comparison.
It started right up, and I was out of the compound with not even a second thought to the manual steering.
The access road to the main street has a bit of an incline, and today the traffic going in both directions was particulary heavy. I held the car on the incline for at least 1 minute, with a Ford Expedition so close behind, that I could not roll back at all.
Down the road I went. This was a new car, and didn't resemble anything that I owned in 1980. Shifter was smooth like butter, Steering was tight, compartment was quiet. Exhaust had rumble, but were not obnoxious.
I got to an open stretch, and took it up to 5000 in second. the shift to third broke both rear tires loose for an instant. That was good fun. I opened up the tripower a couple more times just for the fun of it. Now the odometer says 00014.
