I tend to agree with the diagnosis above IF you drive the car all the time.

When I bought my car it had been sitting for a long time with very little fuel in the tank. The entire sending unit was covered in rust including the resistor board. I couldn't buy a new one so the only option was to take it all apart and thoroughly clean it. It now works perfectly.
