Yeah, could still be the needle and seat. A WOT blast will lift the needle more open, maybe to a point is is sticking on varnish and occasionally not reseating.

"This occurs after depressing throttle fully to set choke and engine starts quickly, then bogs, blows black smoke." - a classic q'jet fault that causes this is a torn diaphragm in the choke pull-off on the passenger-side front of the carb . Disconect the short piece of hose and suck a vacuum on the pull-off. It should retract and stay retracted.
By the way, it is not necessary to floor the gas pedal to set the choke. Just a small amount is enough, until you hear the click of the choke plate closing. But flooring can help get a car started if it has been sitting a few days.

" Pulled over/car died/took off RamAir pan/wiped up fuel" - this puzzles me a bit. I am not sure what Ramair pan looks like, but normally flooding a carb does not require wiping up fuel. It all goes into the intake. Are you getting fuel into the base of the air cleaner?
