If your car is new enough to have the steering wheel lock when the car is in park then you need to ensure that the lever is immobilized in a position where it cannot rotate while driving and unexpectedly engage the steering wheel lock. That leaves the neutral safety switch and the reverse light switch to deal with. The trans probably has a sensor for both that you can wire into to restore that functionality.
