Rafe, Olds did have pretty stout connecting rods from the factory. We once built a tight budget circle track engine Chevrolet engine using Olds connecting rods. We offset ground the crank for the smaller Olds rods (2.100" vs 2.00") The rods held up for 2 seasons before the owner had us build a new engine.
