GTO1 is correct, a TH350 short tail is the best way to go. I took the 300 out of my 64 when I restored it and put in a TH350 and glad I did. The 3 speed makes the car a lot more fun to drive. I put a shift kit in it and get my kicks chearping the tires from 1st to 2nd.
Shiftworks makes a great kit to convert a 2 speed selector over to a 3 speed yet allows you to keep the car looking like a 2 speed. You can go into my site and see a link to shiftworks website.
