too bad they are making a stand like this since they said to grind it and knew there was problems to start with.

Shark is referring to the area where the downpipe meets the manifold. Essentially this connection is exactly like the ball joint you are referring to. The female pipe wraps around the ball (in this case the manifold end is the ball)
