Wow, I miss a few days on the computer...
The car looks great, is very well optioned, and I know what you mean about your friend, John. I have a friend just like him (we go back over 35yrs). The only things I would do is add an HEI distributor, or convert the point dist with a Pertronix kit, and add dual exhaust. The former will make it virtually maintenance-free, and the latter will add at least 25-50hp.
The finned wheel covers are one of the nicest looking hubcaps you could get. Ya gotta like the 4 ashtrays and 3 lighters, I've never smoked, but it sure is a "sign of the times" compared to today's "smokers package" option.
I drove the '76 Bonneville from Akron, OH to home 2 weeks ago today, about 325mi, with no problems. It is a uniquely optioned car......no Tilt, manual windows, or sport mirrors, but it has gauges, cruise, and Rally II wheels. It has the 400 2bbl and a fairly economical to drive back (even though we drove about half the way in an ice and snow storm). I'll post a few pics when I get it cleaned up.
Keep us posted on the GV, and please register it at the Grand Ville registry, I think it will be interesting to see how many are still around.

Oh, and the Toronado (car in my avatar) has the "Comfortron" auto A/C, it is ridiculously complex. I can't get it to function in any way.
