Jim Hand has been doing it for years. Air cleaner to firewall cowl duct. His is homemade by adding a second hose duct to a stock aircleaner and two hoses to the holes in firewall. I just read an article on a restored 63 Z-11. Air cleaner to cowl from the factory. RamAir something or other company has been selling air cleaners for years that have two 4" duct openings to go forwards or backwards. Not sure if an air cleaner element goes in it or its just a huge carb hat. The difference in ambient air and underhood air can be well over a hundred degrees.
