Years ago I took the tank sender out of my 64 GTO, used a torch to melt the solder on the main fuel line, used a drift punch to flare/open up the opening to 1/2" tube, and then I resoldered the tank sender.
I also put the fuel level sender on the 1/2" tube in the right spot so it worked again.
It worked well enough but if I ever put a high performance tank under my GTO it will have a sump and -12 fittings and I will leave the stock fuel level sender where it is and plug the hose nipple at that location.
A proper sump works SO MUCH BETTER vs a modified pick-up. JMO
