Hey North, don't feel bad. It does remind me of the first car I attempted to hop up. No it wasn't a Pontiac(hadn't got that smart yet, but I was fresh out of college

).
I had a 77 Ford LTD II with a 302 in it with a hurt piston when I got it. So when I pulled it out I HAD to put the Crane Fireball cam in that my dad had laying around. He told me that it was probably to big for what I was doing but what did he know, rember I was just out of college, and for auto mechanic even. I also had put 351W heads on it and an Edelbrock Performer with a 600 Holley. Of course I didn't do anything with the converter, although I did put 3.25 gears with a posi in the rear. Well when I was done I had a car that was a real turd off the line, from 2500-5500 RMP was almost respectable and any RPM's over that, you were wasting your time.
Oh and how bad was it off the line....Bad enough that from when taking off from a stoplight against a Pinto, I lost!!!!

I got a very good eduction of what not to do with that car...
