If you still have the 1979 Pontiac carburetor, I'd use it. It will require minor modifications for the new engine, but there isn't anything else out there that will work better, street or at the track.
I use a 1977 Pontiac carburetor on my own 455, it has been dyno, and track tested against quite a few Holley and Demon "race" carburetors, and has outpowered or outran them every time.....Cliff
