How, exactly, do you feel the TM cripples driveability in the A4? I own both an '04 and '06 and I find no driveability problems at all. Both were purchased brand new with less than 15 miles on the odo so I doubt any aftermarket tuning applied to them. Maybe I'm just easier to please than most but seriously, I see no need for additional tuning. I've heard people complain about the M6 as well but I owned an '05 M6 for about 17 months and thought it was just fine as well.
One thing I have noticed about the '06 (and I'm sure it applies to the '05 as well), the shifts are more aggressive and anything above light throttle will cause neck-snapping. There's a definite difference between the '04 and '06 shift calibration.
I love my A4's too!
