I don't think we can assume that the block and heads came from the same car - even if that is what the seller says. I would agree that the later cars would likely come with the D238 or even the FXX8 dated heads that had the 96 on the center ports.
Both this and the WY block you posted are interesting, do you have a picture of the casting number?

I was wondering myself if the heads came from that engine, but then again the block
casting and date goes against the norm so maybe the whole engine does??
