The Summit 2800 is a decent cam for a 350. It's definitely an upgrade from the crummy factory cam. At roughly $100 it's an especially nice upgrade if the motor isn't going to be in the car much longer. The 2801 is too much for a low comp 350. I've seen a lot of guys run that cam in other makes of 350's and have issues with being dead on low end. I have seen the 2801 being used in bone stock bigger engines with some success. I've considered it for a low comp 455 buildup if I can't find a set of heads better than the stock 4X's at a decent price.
Both of these cams are generic grinds. The technology used to develop them is a little outdated. There are superior grinds. Crane makes a Powermax series that will yield better results. I've heard good things about Engle cams as well. People seem to like Comp Cams for Pontiac but I've never had too much luck with them myself. Problem is well you get what you pay for. Better brands are going to cost. The generic 204/214 cam(summit 2800 cam) starts to sound better for the price and considering the fact you intend to switch engines.
