I've got a picture or two somewhere of Arnie's Mopar bodied flopper (it's either a '71 Cuda or Challenger, can't remember which). It too was Hemi powered. Arnie was already running Pontiac power, and with the extra cars added to the stable, leaving them Hemi powered just made more sense than switching them to Pontiac power. By 1971, Arnie wasn't competitive anyway at NHRA meets. Match race bookings made the money, and Arnie had been steeped in that for quite a while by 1971. Jungle Jim was also another big name (as I said before) in match racing circles, who also campaigned more than one car. Match racing funny cars in the 70's was a boon, it wasn't unusual for them to hold races on a Wednesday night, then travel for a Friday night race, followed by a Saturday and Sunday race. |
Brian i know what you mean "Some people you just can't reach"LOL! The guy here local, who collects vintage Drag Cars, Had Both of Jungle's 69 Nova Funny Cars, Jungle's and the one Driven by Clare Sanders, both basically indentical, he had them both restored, then sold them as a pair!
