Heat sink will cause that issue plus poor grounds, I would start with those first.
Make sure your ground is good to the engine or frame - scrape paint and other material off and get the bolt nice and tight, cable should be at least 4 awg. Make sure alt. ground is good as well. If that is good already and assuming the engine tune is good then heat sink could be the issue. You can fab. an aluminum cover to keep heat off the sol. or get a wrap like DEI makes for example to cover the unit. I had the issue then went to a Hi Torque mini starter.
