We didn't use twin turbos but on the buses we used to have with 6V92 Detroits, we used what was called a bypass blower. The two cycle engine needed a blower to idle, but when it was making power the blower actually got in the way of the turbo so there was a bypass valve installed to let the turbo blow past the roots blower.
Rick Dobbeton had his Nova? at the world of wheels car show in DC when he first completed it. A friend I knew at the time was Doug Hess who ran a twin turbo Monza that went 8.68 at 158 or something close had his Monza at the same world of wheels show. Rick was at his car with his entourage when Doug walked over. Doug looked at Rick's setup and told him it couldn't work and why. Rick got very arrogant until he realized who Doug was, then he took him aside quietly and alone to talk to him about it.
