67 GTO Smog question
Hi Tom,
I happen to be detailing the engine compartment of a CA car 67 GTO for a customer. This car has the complete smog set up on it. I think the hose clamps have been changed but other than that looks original. The car runs fine and the smog set up dosesn't appear to have that much effect on the tuning. It only requires vacuum to operate and doesn't look like it would cause any problems unless the vacuum actuator would be faulty and leave an open port. The rest of the system works through the chamber that runs along the edge of the cylinder head just below the valve covers. This is my first time working on a smog car so I am certainly not an authority but this is just my observations. I do have a question about the fuel lines on your car. My customers car has some funky set up that comes up on the drivers side of the car and has a filter, rubber lines, and steel line contraption that leads to the carb. It looks partially stock. With the car having the air pump I assume the normal steel line has no room to feed up through the front of the engine. Could you let me know what kind of set up is on your car? Also if you want to sell your air pump set up I would be interested in buying it. But you should keep it if your car is all stock or could be put back to stock easily.
